Hekate Her Sacred Fires is an exceptional book for an
extraordinary, eternal and universal Goddess. It brings together
essays, prose and artwork from more than fifty remarkable
contributors from all over the world. Their stories and revelations
are challenging, their visions and determination in exploring the
mysteries are inspirational, and their enthusiasm for the Goddess
of the Crossroads is truly entrancing and sometimes highly
infectious. Hekate is a Goddess of great antiquity. She is
primordial, powerful and sometimes animalistic - and yet, she is
also sophisticated, modern and capable of adapting to different
cultures. She is the Torchbearer, the Cosmic World Soul, the Guide
and Companion. She is Mistress of the Restless Dead, who rules over
the Heavens Earth and Sea. She is the Keybearer and so much more.
Her devotees today, as throughout the ages, include philosophers,
poets, sorcerers, theurgists, witches, root-cutters, enchantresses
and ordinary people. In her introduction, the author and priestess
Sorita d'Este brings together an exciting wealth of material on the
history and development of how the goddess Hekate has been seen
through the ages. As well as a fascinating discussion of her
possible origins and mythological connections, the introduction
also includes a timeline providing glimpses into her portrayal
through the ages, with extracts from literature and examples of
amulets, coins and art. The spectrum of material covered in this
anthology is as diverse as the forms of Hekate herself, emphasising
her role as lightbearer, keybearer, initiatrix, world soul, child's
nurse, mistress of crossroads and serpent mysteries. Her devotees
describe her role in traditional witchcraft and initiatory Wicca,
healing and paganism, her approachability through her angels and
trance oracles, her assistance in overcoming traumas and helping
the dead continue their journeys. From the reestablishment of the
ancient worship of the great mother goddess as Hekate in Thrace
(Bulgaria) to meteorites and pilgrimages, Hekate's presence around
the world and beyond is vividly described and illustrated by her
torchbearers.
Exploring the tales of many of the mysterious and captivating
Faerie Queens, this exceptional anthology contains eighteen essays

and discussed from both scholarly and personal perspectives. TO SEE

have spread their magic across Europe for many centuries,
enchanting all who encounter them. From forests and lakes, mounds
and mountains, the Faerie Queens emerge from the liminal places to
bestow their numerous gifts (and curses) on man. Lover,
shapeshifter, sorceress, prophetess, bestower of sovereignty,
semi-divine ancestress, protectress of animals, collector of souls
- the powers and roles of the Faerie Queens are as diverse as the
folklore about them, their origins rooted deep in the legends,
goddesses and beings of the ancient world.
Vs. Duality and conflict in magick, mythology and paganism Edited
by Kim Huggens "Relationship cannot be created without duality: we
are divided for love's sake, for the chance of union..." Vs. is a
unique collection of twenty-one essays exploring the dynamic and
wide-ranging nature of duality in magic, paganism and folklore,
from polarity to paradox to opposition to friction to union. The
essays by magicians, witches, folklorists, sorcerors, Norse and
vodou practitioners, weave together diverse threads of wisdom,
knowledge, experience and inspiration into a tapestry of fallen
angels, heroes, gods, goddesses, fairies, lwa, dreams, myths and
stories. The significance of the interplay between two disparate or
similar powers is explored through the relationship of divine
twins, siblings, lovers and enemies in a variety of different
pantheons and tales, from Cain and Abel to Lilith and Eve, from
Shiva & Shakti to Inanna and Dumuzi, from Perseus and Andromeda
to Ares and Hephastus. The union of divine and mortal is another
powerful theme explored in this book, both through the hieros gamos
(sacred marriage) and the maryaj (Vodou spirit marriage) where a
person weds one of the lwa. Vs. also explores the theme of self and
other, as experienced both in ritual techniques for trance and
dreaming, and in social commentaries on the diversity of beliefs
within the modern esoteric revival such as Wicca, Sorcery and
Neopaganism. Vs. covers a span of thousands of years, from ancient
writings such as those of Plato and Gnosticism to the modern works
of twentieth century magicians such as Austin Osman Spare and Dion
Fortune. From the wisdom of the Emerald Tablet to the tales of the
Mabinogion, Vs. challenges you in numerous ways to accept diversity
and strive for the union of perfection. "I am the voice whose sound
is manifold and the word whose appearance is multiple. " Thunder,
Perfect Mind, 3rd century CE
The Norse gods are as vivid and powerful as the rugged elemental
landscapes they ruled over. From Scandinavia the Vikings raided,
traded and settled across Europe and beyond, leaving their mark
through their deities in place names, literature and particularly
through the derivation of the names of the days of the week from
Tuesday to Friday. Marion Pearce sets the major Norse gods like
Odin, Thor, Loki, Tyr, Baldur, Freya and Frigg into a context of
both time and place, telling their tales in a unique manner and
through doing so she introduces numerous other gods, giants,
heroes, dwarves and monsters from the Norse myths and legends. The
author also writes on the Germanic Saxon gods, who sprang from the
same roots, and explores the conflict between the Norse and Saxon
gods and Christianity. The influences of the Norse and Saxon gods
are considered further through their survival in British folk
customs and significant calendar festivals.Drawing on numerous
sources, including the Eddas and Sagas, the tale of Beowulf,
contemporary Arabic writings and early British laws, the author
demonstrates the threads which unite the days of the week and the
Norse and Saxon gods with other early civilizations and classical
sources from Pliny, Tacitus and Ravenna to the Old Testament. From
the world tree Yggdrasil to its gods and creatures, from the Norse
creation myths to the cataclysmic Ragnarok, from magic charms to
ritual practices, The Viking Gods by Marion Pearce is an evocative
journey through the rich tapestry of Norse paganism, history and
cosmology, illustrated with numerous original line drawings by
visionary artist Emily Carding.ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Marion Pearce is
the author of numerous articles on Celtic, Norse and Roman history
and culture published in magazines in the UK and internationally.
She is the editor of Pentacle Magazine, the biggest independent
pagan magazine in the UK, which she founded in 2002; and was
formerly the editor of Pagan Dawn, the magazine of the Pagan
Federation.
